A Capacity Building Programme (Technical Training) under the Project:
“Promoting Business Models for Increasing Penetration and Scaling up of Solar Energy”
Background
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), in partnership with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MoMSME), Government of India, and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), is implementing the project “Promoting Business Models for Increasing Penetration and Scaling Up of Solar Energy” in industry. The project seeks to accelerate the deployment of Concentrating Solar Thermal (CST) technologies in Indian MSMEs by promoting innovative business models, strengthening technical capabilities, and enabling informed technology adoption for industrial process heat applications.
While a large proportion of industrial energy demand is thermal in nature, many MSMEs continue to depend on conventional fuels such as coal, furnace oil, diesel, LPG and biomass. Although CST technologies are commercially proven and suitable for a wide range of industrial applications, adoption remains limited due to gaps in technical knowledge, technology selection, system design, procurement practices, installation capabilities, and operation and maintenance expertise.
To address these challenges, UNIDO is implementing a technical training programme comprising 12 Technical Trainings across the North, South, East and West regions of India. The programme is intended to strengthen the capabilities of MSME engineers, plant managers, technology suppliers, installers, cluster associations, government agencies and academic institutions by providing practical and application-oriented training on CST technologies.
As part of the programme design phase, stakeholder consultations are being conducted to identify training needs, assess knowledge gaps, understand sector-specific technical requirements, and gather inputs for developing customised training modules, pedagogical approaches and workshop implementation plans. The consultations will form the basis of a comprehensive Training Needs Assessment (TNA) and ensure that the training programme is relevant, practical and responsive to stakeholder requirements.
UNIDO has officially appointed Global Sustainable Energy Solutions India Pvt. Ltd. (GSES India), in consortium with IT Power Private Limited, to implement the Technical Trainings under this project.
