FAQs And Other Information

How are the different courses conducted?

Design and Install Course split into three parts:

  1. Online Theory – assessment questions completed as you read through the course material; this should be attempted before you attend the practical component.
  2. Practical – three day practical at the Sydney Training Facility, doing installations, fault finding, commissioning, revising online theory, and an examination.
  3. Examination – once all other assessments have been undertaken, an exam will be issued.
  4. Design Task – final assignment to bring together all theory and practical knowledge.

Install Only Course split into two parts:

  2. Practical – two or three day practical at the Sydney Training Facility, doing installations, fault finding, commissioning and revising online theory.
  3. Examination – once all other assessments have been undertaken, an exam will be issued.

I’m not very confident with using computers – is there another option?

GSES understands that sometimes technology may create barriers for students, so we provide the option for receiving written assessments instead. You then post them back as you finish, and tutors will provide feedback via post.

You still receive the same resource book and there is no additional cost for this option.

I am not an electrician – what can I do?

Non-electricians are able to enrol in the Design Only course. You will get a certificate of completion.

Note: This is an online course, and has an optional practical course.

FAQs For Registered Students

I have registered, but now I can’t log in.

When you register for the first time, you will receive an email that contains your new username and password.

Sometimes, your email client may treat such messages as spam and they may be sent to your junk mail folder – so if the email has not appeared in your inbox, please check your junk mail box.

If you have entered your email address incorrectly, you won’t receive the email or be able to activate your account. You will need to email the tutors at [email protected]   to activate your account.

I have previously logged in successfully, but now I can’t.

Make sure you have entered your username and password correctly. The password is case sensitive, so make sure that ‘Caps Lock’ is off.

If you have forgotten you password, you can click on the ‘Forgotten Your Password’ link, enter you email, and your details will be sent to your email address.

If you can’t remember the email address you used to log in, you will need to contact the tutors at [email protected] to retrieve your details.

When I log in, it takes me back to the homepage.

Make sure you aren’t already logged in. You can tell if you are already logged in if you can see ‘My Account’ tab in the blue bar at the top.

Try downloading and using either Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome, sometimes updates to Internet Explorer cause issues with the website.

My questions don’t appear in the middle of the page.

If your questions appear off-centre, and you can only see half of the question box, you need to update your website browser (i.e. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc.)

For most browsers, you can update the browser by searching, for example, ‘Update Internet Explorer’

If you are on a work computer, you may need to speak with your IT departments to do any updates.

How do I get back to questions I answered wrong?
  • Go back to the big blue buttons (click on ‘My Account’ in the blue bar once you are logged in) and then go to ‘Access Enrolled Courses’.
  • Click on the magnifying glass next to the topic you want to access.
  • Click directly on the question you want to go to (where it says ‘incorrect’). This will take you directly to the question you have answered incorrectly.
On the ‘My Progress’ page, it says that all the questions in one section are complete, but the actual section itself says incomplete.

A section won’t say complete until all the questions preceding it are also complete. So that means that there are one or more questions in previous section(s) that you have answered incorrectly.

Go back to preceding sections and click on the magnifying glass for each section, so you can see all the questions until you find the ones that say ‘incorrect’. Once you have answered these questions correctly, the sections following will then also show ‘complete’ (if you answered all the questions correctly in that section).
